Back to the Gigging Life!

After a nearly decade-long absence from gigging books and stories and causes, I will return to the life in early December with a presentation of The Old Crow Book Club and my thoughts about Oregon’s crisis of homelessness.

I’m not counting my 25 or so writing workshops and one eulogy held in a fire hall. This is a story and a book and I’m getting back out there because someone asked me—and then actually followed through.

Fifteen people are expected. Average age 75. Socialists and peaceniks. A church basement. Yuban or Folgers coffee. No pay.

Perfect.

I have never gigged this story or this book. I will use no notes or AV. As of this writing, I have no idea how to proceed with the presentation.

Perhaps open with the intro from the book? Or eschew readings altogether and just tell a story and see where it goes from there? Maybe I start with a ten-minute talk and open it up to questions.

The sponsors of the event say I have 50 minutes. Fifty minutes! That’s way too long.

I plan on giving away The Old Crow Book Club to everyone in attendance. That’s what I’ve already done with most of the 2000-copy press run. And distributing that book (almost exclusively in free street libraries) has led to some of my most astonishing experiences as a writer and publisher.

Back to gigging!
