Roy Marx, Socialist Detective by Lark Jameson

My former client emailed me her new idea for a story and it was so great I had to repeat it here. It’s about a socialist Portland detective named Roy Marx who fights crimes of class oppression.

Roy looks like a young Trotsky and dresses in tweed three-piece suits with patches. He drinks Russian vodka made by a peasant collective and smokes ? What did communist revolutionaries smoke?

He carries around the Communist Manifesto for consultation and inspiration. He’s is decidedly anti-tech and laughs at the idea of social media, calling it “the greatest invasion of capitalism into the private lives in the history of the world! And it was free!”

He manages to conduct his communications through a phone booth near his apartment, one of the last working ones left in America.

Lark said the first story will take place in a progressive fast food joint, there will be a murder, and Roy is brought into to solve the grisly murder of a fiery kid who was trying to unionize the joint he worked at. Someone dunked his head into the french fry grease vat.
