From my senior year journal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6-5-82\n<\/em>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nwon the $300 Ron Hite Memorial Scholarship today and it was a\ncomplete shock to me. I know the award had existed but I never\napplied for it so there was never any anticipation in me when it was\nannounced. The shock and disbelief in me were acute. Then, as I was\nwalking up, it occurred to me that I was damn lucky to get it\nconsidering some of the shit I\u2019ve pulled in this school. I gained a\nnew respect for teachers because some of them were willing to forget\npersonalities and stress academics. <\/em>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ms.\nLechner did not seem particularly overwhelmed at my selection and had\nkind of a cold staring look but I can forget that now.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Thank\nyou for your support Mr. Winn, without it, I was dead and thank you\nfor two good years. You were the only teacher who really encouraged\nme to excel. I appreciate it. <\/em>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n \t\t\t\tReflections<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n This\nis my last journal entry of my high school career and maybe for my\nlife. There is a certain sadness that comes with writing this page\nbecause I know that high school is over and I can never relive these\ndays again. High school wasn\u2019t really all that bad; I just tried to\nconvince myself of that. There were times when I could of blown it up\nbut all in all, it was a good atmosphere and excellent place to\nreally start my life. <\/em>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019ve\nmade so many dumb mistakes but there have been some good times also.\nI expect to read this every once and awhile and what I write next is\nsomething that I will read and try to follow for the rest of my life:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Be\nkind, speak no evil of others, think of others and most of all, be\nthankful for what you have.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nend of part 1 of my life.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Not\nyet, I\u2019m looking around and I see people I will never see again and\nthat is strange to me.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I\nfeel it is important for me to remain in contact with people.\nEspecially you Mr. Winn. I want to wish you a happy life and a\nrewarding career always try to be there for high school students who\njust don\u2019t fit in all the time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n Goodbye\nOregon City High School, it has been\u2026 interesting. Remember, I will\nbe back, rather it be a movie or a book, I will finish one of the\ntwo.
