I suppose the ads are\njust too annoying, but it feels like they should be helping out one\nanother. I still believe in local radio stations and newspapers. They\nare holding on, somehow. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I sit at a window table with a grand\nview of Highway 101 and watch the ongoing diaspora of old RVS,\nbattered bicycles, shot cars and ragged men and women on foot. Where\nare we going as a country? Is anyone asking that question? I am. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drizzle wets the sculpture of the\ntown’s high school mascot that’s standing across the street. I bet a\nmillion dogs have whizzed on it. He’s wearing a football helmet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes, football season is upon us. I am\nindifferent. Others are ecstatic. They now have their social lives\nscheduled for the next four months. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Drizzle is turning to rain. I am\nwatching the transformation. Is there a metaphor in there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A woman near me is reading Trivial\nPursuit cards she pulled from the shop’s library. Our eyes meet and\nshe says, \u201cIt’s better than playing on my phone.\u201d Yes. We talk\nfor few minutes about the value of trivia and how it sometimes comes\nin handy. It’s the first interesting conversation I’ve had in a\ncoffee whop in a long time. They are so difficult to initiate these\ndays. They are disappearing as a cultural pastime. I lament that. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
