{"id":5351,"date":"2019-08-22T05:55:55","date_gmt":"2019-08-22T12:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nestuccaspitpress.com\/blog\/?p=5351"},"modified":"2019-08-22T05:55:57","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T12:55:57","slug":"on-rv-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nestuccaspitpress.com\/blog\/meditations\/on-rv-names\/","title":{"rendered":"On RV Names"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- wp:themify-builder\/canvas \/-->\n\n\n<p>In the course of writing my kink modern\nWestern, I began compiling the names of the older, weathered,\n70s-80s-early 90s RVs I would see while driving around Oregon because\nthese RVs and their inhabitants figured prominently in the novel. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My list has now topped 50 and I keep\ncompiling because these rigs keep coming out of  the woodwork in this\nongoing new American diaspora. Surely you&#8217;ve seen it. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I always have a notebook open on the\npassenger seat and record the better names as I drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My only wish is I had a photographer\nriding shotgun with me. What a photo essay this would make! Shooting\nthese rigs while they&#8217;re on the move and often falling apart. Not to\nmention the graphic design styles to document, styles created before\nthe Digital Age.  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The names of current RVs have changed\ndramatically since the 70s-80s-early 90s and I am still trying to\nfigure out why. There is a novel in this big change but I won&#8217; write\nit. It&#8217;s well beyond my ability as a writer. Someone else take it up.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are some the mores arresting\nnames of the older models: \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spirit of America<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sprinter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Golden Falcon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proud Eagle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Executive (The model Bob Dylan\ndrove on The Rolling Thunder Revue Tour! Watch the new Netflix doc on\nthis remarkable event and see BOB DRIVE IT.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nomad<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Adventurer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ambassador<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pioneer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Escape<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Reflection<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hornet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bounder<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freedom<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brave<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clark Cortez (Steve McQueen owned one!)\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Searcher<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Observer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Seeker<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conquest<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Midas (I don&#8217;t get this one at all.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Endeavor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Argosy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Prince<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are more, of course. I often wonder what went into the naming of these rigs.
