Many writers and artists sometimes feel themselves thirsting for an awakening or reawakening to begin a new project, refresh an ongoing one, or rethink life in general. But how does one go about making such a thing transpire? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThe League of Intertidal\nWriters, the Astoria based literary arts organization, announces the\n\u201cZen Fueled Writing Workshop,\u201d Saturday, September 14 in Astoria,\nto help writers and other creative types experience a creative\nawakening or reawakening. I will be teaching the workshop and invite\nyou to join me. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nThe workshop will feature\nwriting and discussion prompts inspired by classic Zen-themed works\nof literature, including Zen and the Art of Motorcycle\nMaintenance<\/em>, The Snow Leopard<\/em>, Siddhartha<\/em>, The\nInner Game of Tennis<\/em>, and multiple volumes by Thich\nNhat Hanh<\/p>\n\n\n\n \nOver the years, these books have\nprovided me incredible ideas, coded instructions, and motivation to\nwrite, create, problem solve, and transcend personal crisis. Much of\nmy writing about dogs, rain, driftwood forts, rivers, the criminal\njustice system, and the ocean are the direct result of immersing\nmyself in these books. I believe interacting with them can inspire\nwriters, musicians and artists to generate new ways of creating. I\nmight add that participants don’t need to have read any of the\naforementioned publications to take the workshop, and that this\nworkshop can help writers of fiction, memoir, poetry, music, any\ngenre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \nThe participants will also\nengage in a series of light and collaborative physical activities\nintended to deepen the workshop experience and help ferment the\ncreative process. There might also be a spontaneous field trip. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n \nThe workshop runs from 10:00\na.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Astoria in a private home. The class costs $60\nand will cap at 12 participants. Participants will pay at the\nbeginning of the workshop or through Paypal.
