Men in the waiting room<\/p>\n
speak of addiction.<\/p>\n
One wears the uniform<\/p>\n
of a road flagger.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He shoots a text<\/p>\n
to a treatment center<\/p>\n
on the last Blackberry<\/p>\n
in America.<\/p>\n
Rain falls outside.<\/p>\n
Give me 40 days<\/p>\n
and 40 nights of<\/p>\n
Bladerunner<\/i> rain.<\/p>\n
Give me Noah meets Deckard<\/p>\n
and let us all drown<\/p>\n
and start over<\/p>\n
with replicants in Congress.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I hear an insane man<\/p>\n
beyond the door.<\/p>\n
I’ve sat in a room<\/p>\n
with his insanity.<\/p>\n
It caromed like an object in a cartoon.<\/p>\n
Euthanasia crossed my mind.<\/p>\n
But not for myself.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Why do I write<\/p>\n
poems in here?<\/p>\n
They clash with the<\/p>\n
coke machine and gray carpet.<\/p>\n
I should stop reading Whitman in here.<\/p>\n
He’s clouding my vision<\/p>\n
with his hallucinations of democracy.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I am no poet<\/p>\n
with these probation poems.<\/p>\n
Read this non-poem<\/p>\n
for corroboration.<\/p>\n
Corroboration is a terrible<\/p>\n
word for poetry.<\/p>\n
(Carom isn’t bad.)<\/p>\n
At least I know that.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
A sign on the wall<\/p>\n
says the seafood plant is hiring.<\/p>\n
ASAP!\/ $11 an hour<\/i>.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The local seafood industry<\/p>\n
dies without this office.<\/p>\n
They cast their nets<\/p>\n
in the parking lots.<\/p>\n
I’ve seen it.<\/p>\n
Casting from a truck,<\/p>\n
not a boat.<\/p>\n
Fishers for marginalized men.<\/p>\n
Fishers not taught by Jesus.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I’ve seen so much here,<\/p>\n
none of it poetry.<\/p>\n
